The Levels School’s careers education has the following aims:

  • To contribute to raising achievement throughout the school by developing self-esteem, resilience and motivation within each student
  • To support inclusion, challenge stereotyping, and promote equality of opportunity.
  • To encourage continued learning after The Levels School
  • To develop employment and enterprise skills to benefit the student and the market-place
  • To meet the needs of all pupils through differentiation and one to one support
  • To involve parents and carers

The Levels School aims to work hard in order to help its pupils so that they can become successful independent adults.

Our Core Employability Skills

At The Levels School, we aspire to develop enquiry and reflection in each student by embedding careers guidance throughout every year group, within all subjects and through a comprehensive pastoral programme. To achieve this, The Levels School fully embraces the Gatsby Benchmarks, forms positive links with FE colleges, employers and apprenticeship providers as well as developing 7 core employability skills across all lessons, providing access to skills fairs and giving individual guidance to all pupils.

Careers Development

 

Prep
  • Assemblies about challenging stereotypes and different jobs/careers

  • Take part in STEM activities outside of the normal curriculum

  • Learn key skills that will develop into employability skills further up the school

KS3
  • Assemblies to learn about self-awareness, ambitions and careers.

  • Learn from visitors who work in different sectors and areas of employment

  • Take part in STEM activities outside of the curriculum.

  • Continue to develop key employability skills through delivery of the curriculum

  • Consider and discussed your strengths, interests, passions and goals through subjects such as Tutor Time and PSHE and Life Skills

  • Learn how different school subjects link to careers

  • Look at LMI (local Market Information) and met some local employers or people who work in jobs outside of the school

  • Have taster lessons for option subjects (Year 9)

KS4
  • Continue to have assemblies and PSHE experiences which develop career knowledge and exploration of interests

  • Learn from visitors who work in different sectors and areas of employment

  • Meet with Mrs Wood to discuss your career options and have this added to your IEP

  • Create a CV or Personal Statement

  • Learn about and practise interview techniques

  • Experienced a college experience day (booked on a student-by-student basis.

  • Have the opportunity to undertake work experience (to be explored on a student-by-student basis.)

P16
  • Experiences of career knowledge and exploration of interests

  • Learn from visitors who work in different sectors and areas of employment

  • Regularly meet with Mrs Wood to discuss your career interests and options for college or an apprenticeship

  • Develop a CV, Personal Statement or linkedin account

  • Learn about and practise interview techniques

  • Experience college experience days and regular visits to college

  • Work experience in the local area
