Trip To The Newt In Somerset

On Wednesday 15th March, 3 geography and 4 art GCSE students went to The Newt in Somerset.

As part of the GCSE geography course fieldwork RSC has to be undertaken. The students compared managed areas of The Newt with those that were less managed, identifying each species and the prevalence of them in different areas to compare biodiversity. The students worked really hard and were encouraged with a piece of delicious cake at one of the cafes on the estate.

Meanwhile, the art students were developing their photography skills. They were challenged to look for interesting landscape compositions, sculptural forms and close ups of shapes and textures to create abstract images. The students took a lot of photos and the task became quite competitive with everyone regularly counting how many photos they'd taken. The photographs will be uploaded, edited and then some will be incorporated into their current coursework project. Other photos will be presented as a separate body of work for their portfolios.
